The University of Virginia welcomed the participants of the 2005 Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU; formerly the SURP Summer Undergraduate Research Program) with a Welcome Dinner on Friday, June 3rd. This summer, each student will work closely with the faculty mentor and graduate students in their sponsoring lab on an independent nanotechnology research project. Research results will be tracked throughout the ten weeks of the program, culminating in the composition of a written report on their work, accompanied by a poster presentation as well as a public oral presentation of results. The 2005 program concluded on August 12.
